According to the ministry handling  environmental issues air- pollution affects people from all walks of life. The Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), has taken the right action with a view to  reducing the  looming poor air quality in and around Delhi metropolis ahead of the festive season.  The  surge in air pollution in the Indian capital, enveloping the city in a thick blanket of toxic haze may get  worsened if fire crackers are not banned.  Recently  after Dusshera  festival commemorating the victory of Lord Ram over Ravana the air quality in the Delhi area was affected as the people had burned Ravana's  tall effigies in public places defying restrictions.   Environment minister Gopal Rai says this will address the spikes in pollution  associated with firecrackers during the festival season.

The Central Pollution Control Board  noted that recently the Air Quality Index (AQI) was hovering around  228; the  concentration of PM 2.5 was not a good news.  The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed  Delhi's 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 355 at 4 pm as against 255 recently The air quality also varies in some urban areas.
