How William Watts And Robert Clive Fueled East India Company's Earliest Greed To Rule India - A Brief Review

In the earliest history of the East India Company  and its mercantile operations in the Fertile land of the Indian subcontinent and the company' s greed to  seize the rich wealth got a boost with the arrival of Robert Clive from EIC , Madras (now in Tamil  Nadu) to regain the control of Ft. William built in Calcutta. Subsequent manipulative and diabolical actions by the senor officers impacted the local rulers who were non-cooperative with the British merchants.

Both Robert Clive's actions in Bengal and the role of William Watts highlight  a key turning point in British-Indian relations. Clive, determined to control the prosperous Bengal region, exploited the lack of cooperation from Nawab Siraj ud-Daulah and the unstable political situation within the regime.  Watts, a  senior Officer  and linguistically skilled  became Clive's agent in Murshidabad and navigated the court politics to destabilize the Nawab's rule. Through strategic alliances with local dissident leaders - Amirs, including Mir Jafar, Watts was instrumental in orchestrating the events leading to the Battle of Plassey and Siraj ud-Daulah's overthrow. He  got the solemn assurance in the name of Allah and Quran from Mir Jaffar before the major battle.

The British - India history began with the arrival of company's ship Winchester on 31 May 1744 ( sailed from Portsmouth on 19 March 1743).  It anchored off Fort St George, Madras (now Chennai, Tamil Nadu) and the famous passenger was Robert Clive who began his career  as a clerk with the English Company at Ft. St. George .........

Post-Plassey, after the murder of ruler Siraj, Clive and Watts secured Bengal's resources, significantly benefiting Britain’s economy and aiding the growth of the British Empire. The British East India Company reaped enormous profits, marking the beginning of British imperial rule in India, an era that profoundly impacted Indian history and contributed to the British Industrial Revolution. Both Watts and Clive gained (in the later part of 1757) enormously from the treasury of Bengal by making Mir Jaffar and later Mir Qasim  puppet rulers. when they turned against the british, finally through wars and aggressions took over bengal and other regions in the 1700s
