Bhandasar Jain Temple of Bikaner, Rajasthan, has rich frescoes, ornamented mirror, etc

There are countless big and small Jain temples in Rajasthan with rich architecture, Among them Bhandasar Jain Temple (or Bhanda Shah Jain temple), of Bikaner is a unique one and  is famous for rich wall painting, frescoes and ornamented mirror and   and ornamented mirror and  art work.

Constructed by Bhandasa Oswal in the 12th century the temple is dedicated to Sumatinatha, the 5th tirthankara.  It is said to prepare mortar, instead of water  40,000 kg of ghee was used  for the construction of this temple.

As for design style, Bhandasar Jain Temple a three-story temple,built with  red sandstone has a fine sanctum and Range Mandapa with beautiful paintings and yellow-stone carvings on walls, pillars. One can see illustrations of the lives of the 24 tirthankaras. The sanctum is pancharatha (five rathas) is covered by shikhara having karna-amalakas and amalakas at top. Besides  the sanctum there are antarala, maha mandapa, and ardha mandapa, the normal parts of a temple. The renovated temple is a protected monument, being under the ASI -  the Archaeological Survey of India.
