Brahma Temple, Pushkar (also known as Jagatpita Brahma Mandir) is a Hindu temple situated at Pushkar in the Indian state of Rajasthan, close to the sacred Pushkar Lake to which its legend has an indelible link.

The Brahma  temple here is one of very few existing temples dedicated to the trinity God ( Trimurti' others being God Vishnu -sustainer and God Shiva- destroyer) Hindu of Creation and among the surviving temples. This temple, with partial building in the early stages  is said to be the foremost one among them, dating back  to the 14th century CE  Made of marble and stone slabs (marble is available in plenty In Rajasthan), the small temple has a distinct red pinnacle (shikhara) and a hamsa bird motif.  In the inner sanctuary -garbhagriha is enshrined  idol four-headed Brahma along with his consort Gayatri, the goddess of vedas and wisdom. 

The temple is governed by the priests of Sanyasi (ascetic) sect. The temple becomes vibrant and crowded on the  Kartik Poornima.  A colorful festival is held dedicated to Brahma. On this day lots of devout Hindus visit the temple to get the blessings of God Brahma and Goddess Gayatri.  

The Brahma temple is said to have been built by sage Vishwamitra after Brahma's intense yagna (ritual). Mythology ha it  God Brahma himself chose the  location for his temple close to the  sacred lake Pushkar.  The 8th century Hindu philosopher Adi Shankara of Kalady (Kerala) who established four Mutts including the Sarada Mutt of Sringeri, Karnataka and Dwaraka Mutt of Gujarat visited this site and renovated this temple. Hence, it is considered a sanctified place of worship for the Hindus. According to the Hindu legend God Brahma chose Pushkar by dropping the lotus where the Lake had emerged.

Home to more than 400 temples (of large as well as small size) in one place close to the sacred lake a s happened elsewhere,  many of the ancient temples were destroyed or desecrated by Muslim invaders. Particularly  when Mogul king Aurangzeb took over the reigns (1658–1707) his army, on his orders,  much of the damages were caused by him., not only here but also in places like Mathra and Khasi, (Uttar Pradesh).

Many of the temples were rebuilt by the Hindus with support from the local rulers.  The current medieval structure dates back to Maharaja Jawar Raj of Ratlam, who made additions and repairs, retaining the  original temple design. However some of the surviving structures date back to the 14th century. 

The legend has it that Lord Brahma performed a yajna (sacrificial ritual) at Pushkar without his wife, Goddess Saraswati. So he chose Lord Brahma performed the ritual and married Gayatri, a local girl,     Gayatri, a local girl, and after marrying her he completed the ritual. When Brahma's first wife  goddess Saraswati  was back she saw God Brahma  married to another woman in total violation of the Hindu Dharma. No doubt, she became furious and threw a curse on him.Brahma would be  worshiped only in Pushkar and not in other places across India.

The Brahmapureeswarar Temple  near Trichy, TN and  Mithranandapuram Temple of  Kerala where it is dedicated to  the Trimurti - Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva (one of the most famous Trimurti temples in India). Brahma temple of Alampur in Telangana  and the Brahma Temple of Khajuraho, MP are  worthy of mention, but they are not popular unlike the Brahma temple of Pushkar.
