The annual festival of  the popular Sabarimala, the abode of Swami Ayyappan is celebrated with devotion.  Known as Painkuni Uthram Festival, it comes during the Tamil month of Painkuni (March – April), which corresponds to the Malayalam month of Meenam.  This ten-day festival  with grand events such as Pallivetta (ritual hunting) and Aarattu (holy bath) attracts lots devotes from Kerala, Tamil Nadu and also Andhra. As in many Hindu temples, the festivities began with the ceremonial flag hoisting.  The thantri hoisted the flag at golden flag mast around 9.30 am on 2nd April after the procession carrying the flag on the pradakshina path clockwise  around the sreekovil - ghragriha. This was  followed by Deeparadhana (lamp worship) under the flag pole. The main rituals on the first day  are  Ashtabhishekam and pushpabhishekam..

 Utsavabali, was  held for eight days from the second day of the festival on Thursday to the ninth day. The 11th day marked   the pallivetta procession from the  Sannidhanam to the nearby Pamba. river Yetanothe ritual roughly equal th theerthavari.   the Aarattu occurs in honour of Lord  Ayyappa's  birth star, Uthram. After the Aarattu, the idol was  kept  in the Pazhukka Mandapam of the Pamba Ganapati Temple for devotees to offer their worship

Sabarimala temple to reopen for  Panguni month pooja and  devotees will be allowed to attend the various poojas on the  scheduled days after  the Aarattu,

The Travancore Devasthanam board (TDP) on April1, 2025 is completing its 70th year and to celebrate the occasion the board is selling gold lockets with the image of Lord Ayyappa  weighing 1 to 8 grams  at the temple. The  bookings for the lockets stat  from April 1, 2025 as per official report.
