The States Reorganisation Act was implemented in 1956 across India with a view to redefine the Indian states' boundaries on the basis of linguistic and cultural similarities. Prior to 1956, Kannada-speaking regions and their cultural orientation were scattered across the neighboring states of Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala, particularly along the state line and in some places much inside. The Mysore State was formed soon after linguistic unification on November 1, 1956 to retain its cultural dynamism and legacy. The word Kannada is the derivation of Karunadu. Later when Devaraj Urs was the Chief Minister, it was renamed as Karnataka on Nov 01, 1973 after a long passage of time.

The proposed protocol is as follows
“The Kannada flag must have yellow on the top and red on the beneath. The flag must be made of Khadi or hand-woven. The shape of the flag must be similar to the Indian flag, and it must be hoisted below the Indian flag. However, there are different sizes of Kannada flags available in the market, and customers can buy according to their needs.”
