Indira Mandiram, locally known as Ammachi Kottaram, in Idukki District of Kerala state, is a historic summer mansion that epitomizes the careful blending of native Kerala and Colonial architectural styles. Built in 1926 as the summer residence of Her Highness Sethu Lakshmi Bai of the erstwhile Regent Maharani of the Travancore Royal Family, the members used to reside here during hot seasons, getting away from the summer hest in the plains of Thiruvananthapuram (now the state capital of Kerala) and its neighborhood. Thomas Pottamkulam, serving as a refined halt for travelers journeying from lowland Travancore to Periyar.
Since 1958, under the ownership of Michael A Kallivayalil, the home has retained its original granite foundation and many characteristic features despite various renovations, retaining its architectural heritage and timeless charm. This exquisite property remains a celebrated landmark, symbolizing both history and innovative design.
